Goddess of Hypertension

Being a doctor isn't easy. Most of the time it is already arduous to reach a correct diagnosis or finding an appropriate explanation for a patient's complaints, but the biggest challenge is to make sure the patient complies to the treatment you offer.

What is more frustrating is that when a patient comes to see you and eventually you find out what is wrong with him. And then he refuses every single treatment you offer despite you wasting your breath counselling him the consequences for doing so. I wouldn't really care much if that patient dies or ends up with some serioud morbidity, but then it goes against my conscience; there is this agonizing pricky feeling that constantly haunts you whenever you think of the fact that someone is dying because he refuses to get treated.

Having arrived in KK Bahau for my locum, I saw my colleague talking to a patient.
Me: Still seeing this last patient?
Suba: Yah. Giving me a real headache.
Me: How come?
Suba: This Indian uncle came complaining of headache and dizziness and his BP is shooting high. When I advise for admission he refuses treatment and say he wants to go home.
Me: Then why is he putting his hands together and worshipping you?
Suba: He's praying asking me to let him go back home.
Me: Maybe he thinks you're the goddess of hypertension and you can reduce his BP with your magic powers. LOL.

If you don't plan to follow the doctor's advice, don't see a doctor then.
