The Sound of Music

Finally I get to catch (more than) a glimpse of the acclaimed The Sound of Music! And damn, it was just terrifically breathtaking! Awesome!

I presume many of us have been exposed to the movie version of The Sound of Music, which starred Julie Andews and Christopher Plummet, and definitely the high-ly contagious songs such as "The Sound of Music", "Do-re-mi", "Eldeiwess", and "My Favourite Things". For me especially, I grew up with the constant brain-bashing of The Sound of Music; numerous times have I watched the movie on tv/VCR, listened to the songs from my sister's piano and not to forget the airwaves, and in school where the teachers are obsessed with "Do-re-mi". Hence, I could say it's the only musical that I'm totally familiar with.

Anyway, finally I satisfied my lust for The Sound of Music on last Thursday in KL Convention Center with Jessica and ChingYing. The hall itself wasn't that big, contrary to my belief, but still at our RM293 seats, I still can't clearly see the casts' faces. Maybe we should have got the RM393 seats instead? LOL.

The backdrop was nice, but the staircase was a bit annoying with the casts running up and down numerous times. I almost held my breath watching Gretl climbing up and down the stairs, just in case she falls and break her neck or something. There were a few different scenes, compared to the movie version, especially the part where they sang "My Favourite Things" and "The Lonely Goatherd", and not to forget a few extra songs, which was splended nonetheless. Then again, the 15 yo Frederick was just as tall as 11 yo Kurt; maybe he's having some underlying nutritional deficits perhaps?

Anyway, it was simply wonderful :)

Magical Musicals, on the otherhand, was a total disappointment. Overpriced and overrated too. Mentioning about it will just make my day gloomy. Sigh.
